A Few Facts About Me and How Literature has had an Impact in My Life

Literature has had a major impact on my life. My essays, projects, and knowledge of new words have improved because of the amount of books I have read over these past few years. Literature plays an important role in improving one's command of language, helps us express ourselves, and more accurately convey our messages. Overtime, I have improved my ability to understand the books I read and have been able to make strong analyses based on simple quotes. 



In my "What Do You Value" word cloud I list all my values, including the ones I am still working on. Some of the important values in my word cloud are responsible, creative, and determined. I picked the word responsible because being responsible means that people can depend on you to get things done and it therefore brings you respect. Creativity is important to me because I believe that without creativity one will not be able to succeed and make progress. Lastly, determination is in my word cloud because it leads to achieving your goals and being successful. Although I am still working on being determined, it is one of my top values. 

A few of the most important words in my "Who You Are" word cloud are travel, dance, Netflix, and. sleeping. Traveling has been one of my favorite things to do ever since I was a little kid. I have always been excited to go on family trips during breaks and explore new places. I put dance in my word cloud because ever since eight grade I have become interested in dancing and it has become one of my favorite hobbies. Netflix is one of my words because during my free time I watch my favorite shows and movies. Finally, sleeping is in my word cloud because nothing beats a good night sleep after a busy day.

    I think that your comments on how literature has changed your life and helped you grow really opened umps eyes to some new ideas about it. I really liked how you mentioned how it "helps us express ourselves, and more accurately convey our messages". It made me think and reflect on how it has done the same to me.

    Great job! I think you really explained why you incorperated everything very well. I liked how you starrted off with "Literature has had a major impact on my life." This is importants because of all the liturarture we did last year and all the years before that really did inmact all of us.

Before reading Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie we had to make power points on Chairman Mao that we would present to our class. The powerpoint on the history of Mao's re-education program was confusing to me at first because I did not quite understand what the re-education program was about. My Thoughts on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew

It is the beginning of the second semester and we have started off this semester by reading William Shakespeare's,  Taming of the Shrew. This play is about two sisters, one who is extremely quiet and the other who is outspoken. When I first heard of this play I thought that it would be only about the taming of a women rather than the life of her sister depending on the disappearance of her shrewdness. I also believe that the "shrew" will never be able to be tamed. The six posters from recent productions of the Taming of the Shrew all shared thematic commonalities. They each include a picture that depicts a way of trying to tame Katherine, also known as the shrew. These posters show that the woman in the picture is more powerful than the men who are trying to stop her in each different poster. "Honor" Killing

In my English class we are reading Chronicle of a Death Foretold by  Gabriel García Márquez. In this story, a young man named Santiago is murdered by twin brothers, Pablo and Pedro, because they found out that he had raped their sister. This event would bring shame to their family. For this reason, the twins felt like his murder was not to be considered a wrongdoing, even thought most people, including me, agree that it should have been. I do not believe  the  the murder of  Santiago is an "honor killing" because if it were then the twins would have killed their sister rather than Santiago. After learning about this topic, I was horrified by some of the actions that take place, especially to girls in the society. One of the examples of "honor killing" was the murder of one's daughter for being raped although she was the victim of rape.
